On October 3, 2011 I got engaged! And here's a close up of the beautiful ring!

It originally came from Savitt Jewelers in Hartford, Connecticut. It’s what is called a "5D setting". The band itself is in 14kt light yellow gold and the stones are set in 14kt white gold. There are 3 channel set diamonds on each side of the band, and 4 smaller diamonds resting beneath/off to the sides of the center diamond.

It was a family heirloom of his and it’s over 75 years old. It belonged to his great aunt on his mother’s side. The center diamond was from his great aunt’s first engagement ring but she later brought it to Savitt to have it reset in this beautiful style to make it more flashy.

I absolutely love it! But I still need to go and get it re-sized. It’s currently a size 9 and I need it brought down to a 5 1/2. Yikes! Guess his great aunt had a big finger!

There was no original ring-box and so I’ve begun a hunt to track down a vintage Savitt Jeweler’s ring box so that I too may pass it down someday with a little bit more history.

When carving a wax which must fit another ring….I always start with what I know. In this case the size…6 1/2. After that, I know that it must fit as closely as possible up against the engagement ring.
